Communicating with Students

Determine how you will communicate with your students and provide your plan with your students, as well as how you expect them to communicate with you.
  • Decide if you will use Rollins email or communication tools in Canvas
  • If you use the Canvas Inbox and/or Announcements, remind students to check their notification settings. Individuals set their own notification preferences and may have turned off email.
  • You may also consider using the Fuze phone/computer app or Microsoft Teams to conduct virtual office hours or meetings.

Delivering Content in Canvas

Post readings, web-based resources, updated syllabus, and class schedule to Canvas
Create a screen recording of a narrated PowerPoint or Record a screen recording demonstration (e.g., Excel, editing tips, software demo)

Creating Online Assignments in Canvas

Create an assignment or quiz in Canvas to allow students to submit work
Create a peer review assignment in Canvas for students to comment on each other's work
Students may use Kaltura/My Media to record a narrated PowerPoint, webcam video, or screen recording demonstration to share on a discussion board in Canvas or submit as an assignment.

Instructor tip:  In order for students to have the option to embed a Kaltura video in an assignment, you will need to choose Online Submission and then select Text Entry when creating the assignment.

Instructor tip:  Make sure the My Media link is visible to students on your course menu (Settings > Course Navigation). This is the only way for students to access Kaltura.
