Kaltura Video Quiz: What it does and how to best use it.

Kaltura's Video Quiz allows the instructor to create and place questions within a video located in a Canvas course. Adding a Kaltura Video Quiz to a Canvas Assignment allows the instructor to not only grade the quiz from within the course but also view the quiz analytics for each student's submission.

Record Mini-lectures with Kaltura and Use Video Quizzes

  • Create brief videos in Kaltura with the idea of inserting a question-and-answer session to support concepts along the way.
    • Demonstrations showing the process of solving a problem, and tracking student understanding along the way.
    • Download Kaltura Personal Capture and record short 'Just in Time' videos from your office, the classroom, or in the field.
    • Share 'How Tos' with students (e.g., Excel, editing tips, software demo) querying and reinforcing recently acquired knowledge.
  • For longer recordings, consider clipping or trimming and chucking them into smaller sections. Keep recordings short (best practice of 7-10 minutes per video).
    • Insert questions every 2-3 minutes.
  • Accessibility concerns are part of the Universal Design for Learning concept that remove barriers for everyone.

Best Practices for Creating Kaltura Video Quizzes

  • Be sure to shuffle your answers.
  • All incorrect answer options should be plausible.
  • It is not recommended to use "all of the above" and "none of the above" as wrong-answer options.
  • Make sure the question is meaningful by itself and represents a definite problem to be solved.
  • Keep answer lengths concise and similar.
  • Try not to create trick questions, but rather allow for constructive learning.
  • Use only one correct answer and make sure that it is clear why the others, while plausible, are not the correct options.
  • It is recommended to place the quiz questions no closer than half a second.
  • It is recommended to put the last question at the end of the video to keep the user engaged through the entire subject.
