Perusall is a social learning platform that helps you connect with classmates via annotation to foster understanding of the content better and make the most of your course experience.

Load a Perusall Assignment

  1.  To access the reading assignment, click on the appropriate assignment link from within the Canvas course.

  2. Once on the Canvas assignment page, click on the link for that assignment.  The reading will open up to be read in a new Perusal window​​.

    (Redirection will automatically occur to the assignment on the Perusal site.)

Starting an annotation assignment

  1. After clicking on the assignment from within Canvas, you will be directed to the course in Perusall.

  2. Begin reviewing what the professor has posted, as you find something to comment on, highlight it.  The Current Conversation window pops up to place a comment within.

    (If you are accessing a textbook, you may be prompted to purchase it if you haven't previously.)

Starting and Responding to conversations with classmates

  1. When the assignment is opened, highlights may already be superimposed on the document that represents comments that have been by submitted by others in the course.

    (Yellow highlights indicate comments or questions by you or other students; blue highlights indicate comments from your instructor.)

     
  2. To start a conversation, click on text that is already highlighted.

  3. The Current conversation window pops up, and you can begin typing a comment. Be sure to hit Enter (or return) to submit your comment. Comments will appear in real-time.

    (Pink highlights indicate a strand of text selected for making a comment.)
