Mobile Telephone Use & Texting While Driving Policy

Of increasing concern to the College are the dangers of distracted driving. Recent deadly crashes involving drivers distracted by text messaging or handheld mobile telephone use while driving highlight a growing danger on our roads. Text messaging and handheld mobile telephone use cause drivers to take their eyes off the road and at least one hand off the steering wheel, endangering both themselves and others. The College values the safety and health of our faculty, staff and student employees. Driving safely and alertly must be the highest priority. The purpose of this policy is to prohibit the unsafe practices of text messaging and handheld mobile telephone use by Rollins faculty, staff and students while driving in connection with Rollins business. This includes Rollins vehicles, golf carts, and rental cars and vans.
