About Zoom
Zoom is a video conferencing platform that allows you to attend or host video meetings, share your screen and content, chat, participate in break-out group meetings/discussions, and more. You can access Zoom on a desktop computer, laptop, or mobile device.
Accessing Zoom for the First Time
- Access and download the Zoom desktop app.
- The desktop app provides access to more features, such as screen sharing and adding virtual backgrounds. You will only need to download the desktop app once.
- Directions to install the Zoom desktop application:
- Log into okta.com and click on the Zoom tile.
- The Zoom desktop application should automatically download. If it does not, click the link to download and run Zoom.
- It is also recommended that you also install the Zoom app on your mobile device.
Joining Your Class Session in Zoom
- Your instructor will share a link with you to join a live class session in Zoom. If you are not sure how to join a live class session in Zoom, please ask your instructor.
- Plan to connect to your class meeting in Zoom 5 - 10 minutes prior to the start of class so that you have time to troubleshoot any technical difficulties.
- If you have any issues joining the meeting or need technical support, contact the Help Desk by emailing helpdesk@rollins.edu or calling 407-628-6363.
- Below are directions for common features you may want to use during a Zoom session.
Using Zoom for Group Work or Collaboration

If you are a student participating in the Zoom pilot, you have the ability to access your Zoom account, schedule a meeting, invite others to attend a meeting, or host a meeting in your Zoom personal room.
- You may use one of the following methods to access your Zoom account:
- Log into okta.com and click on the Zoom tile.
- Open the Zoom desktop application and start or schedule a meeting.
