The Turnitin External Tool integration in Canvas is being phased out and replaced with the new Plagiarism Framework. Currently, both integration options are available in Canvas. There is no date on when Turnitin will stop supporting the external tool integration.

Features Available in External Tool and Plagiarism Framework Integration
- Similarity Reports (Originality Check).
- Canvas SpeedGrader, the recommended feedback tool when using the Plagiarism Framework.
- ETS e-rater grammar checking.
- Change due date. Dates can be set before/after student submissions are made.
- Feedback Studio: On the due date, an updated score is available in Feedback Studio. And will be updated in SpeedGrader and Gradebook.
Differences in Features
- Plagiarism Framework offers Group assignments, where External Tool does not.
- Plagiarism Framework allows Multiple file submission. Each submission has its own Similarity Report. All previous submissions will be retained.
- External tool features the Turnitin online grading tools (QuickMarks, Feedback Summary, Rubric).
- External tool includes Turnitin PeerMark, while Plagiarism Framework uses Canvas Peer Review.
