How do I use Listen Everywhere?

To use Listen Everywhere, you need to be able to connect to your hearing aids via Bluetooth.  Please note: not all hearing aids have this feature.  If you do not have this capability, compatible headphones are available for use.

  1. Connect phone to Rollins wifi (FoxNet-v2 or Rollins-Guest)
  2. Download the Listen Everywhere App (then keep reading the instructions)
    1. Google Play Store
    2. Apple App Store
  3. The Venue Scan feature does NOT work.
    1. The venue scan may start automatically, it gives an error about wireless connection, click OK then click Back at the bottom left
    2. Below the scan button, enter the "listen" address below that matches your location in the "IP Address" field
      1. Rice Family Pavilion:  listenRice.rollins.edu
      2. Bush 202:  listenBush202.rollins.edu
    3. Press return or enter (not done)
  4. Select the following channel
    1. Rice Family Pavilion: Rice Pavilion
    2. Bush 202:  Bush 202

If you leave one space that has Listen Everywhere and enter another space that has it, it will not connect automatically. You will need to disconnect following these steps:

  1. Click on the menu at the top left of the application.
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Disconnect
  4. The app will bring you back to the page to connect.

What do I do if the setup is not working?

  1. If you have a VPN, turn it off and try again. If you still have issues, close and re-launch the app

  2. Call the Help Desk (407-628-6363):
    1. If we cannot get your hearing aids to connect, we can bring an external headset that connects to the Listen Everywhere solution so you can still hear the event and be able to participate!

  3. If your hearing aids DO work with other Listen Everywhere applications, share your hearing aid details with us - brand and model - and we'll follow up with our vendor

  4. If your hearing aids do NOT work with other bluetooth listening assistance applications, check these details with your audiologist before the next session you attend in a hearing-loop-enabled room:
    1. Not all hearing aids have bluetooth capabilities; ask your audiologist if your hearing aids are bluetooth compatible.
    2. Sometimes the bluetooth setting is not activated; ask your audiologist to ensure this feature is enabled on your hearing aids.

How do I use Listen Everywhere effectively?

Teaching and Learning Tips are here to provide suggestions for the Instructor and student on how to get the most out of this technology.

  • Repeat the question.
    • Many times when a student asks a question, other students cannot hear what was asked as only the instructor has a microphone.
    • Repeating the question will help all students understand and be better prepared to hear the answer.

  • Keep background noise to a minimum.
    • The smallest of noises can be amplified by hearing aid devices and cause the speaker's voice to be lost in the background.
    • Minimize opening of windows, side conversations, pencil sharpening, loud electric fans/AC units, moving chairs/furniture around, etc. while class is in session.

  • Be expressive.
    • Keep in mind that the deaf and hard-of-hearing rely on visual cues to gather information, even with hearing aid devices.
    • Communication through body language, hand jesters, and other visual expressions will help to convey your message.
