Mac Computer
How to install R:
- Go to the official download page for R (macOS)
- Note: For users with an Intel MacBook, click on the installer for older Intel Macs
- Note: For users with an M1/M2 MacBook, click on the installer for Apple Silicon (M1/M2) Macs
- Click on the downloaded file to launch the installer
- Run the installer. Do not change the preferences in the installer
- Once the Installer completes, you can click the Finish button to close the installer
- You have successfully installed R on your computer
Note: The R install package includes a lightweight IDE with the R icon.
How to install RStudio:
- Go to the official download page for RStudio and click on DOWNLOAD RSTUDIO DESKTOP FOR MACOS 12+
- Click on the downloaded file and a window should appear
- In the same window, drag the RStudio icon into the Applications folder
- Wait until RStudio has moved to your application folder and close the window
- Navigate to your application folder
- Find the RStudio icon and double click it to run
- A pop-up will appear asking "Are you sure you want to open it?"
- Click Open
- RStudio will launch
Windows Computer
How to install R:
- Go to the official download page for R (windows) and click on Download R X.X.X for Windows
- Click on the downloaded file to launch the installer
- Run the installer. Do not change the preferences in the installer
- Once the Installer completes, you can click the Finish button to close the installer
- You have successfully installed R on your computer
Note: The R install package includes a lightweight IDE with the R icon (not RStudio)
How to install RStudio:
- Go to the official download page for RStudio and click on DOWNLOAD RSTUDIO FOR WINDOWS
- Click on the downloaded file to launch the installer
- Run the installer. Do not change the preferences in the installer
- Once the Installer completes, you can click the Finish button to close the installer.
- You have successfully installed RStudio on your computer
Note: The RStudio installer does not add the desktop shortcut for RStudio by default. If you don't have it, you will have to search for RStudio by using the search bar next to the windows logo in the bottom left corner.
