Meta Quest 3: Initial User Setup

Headset power on or off, connecting to Wi-Fi, and logging off and shut down procedure.

Powering On/Off

• Turn On: Press and hold the power button located on the left side of the headset for 2–3 seconds until the display activates. 
• Turn Off: Hold the power button until the shutdown menu appears. Select 'Power Off' to fully shut down the device. 
• Library checkout Protocol:
  1. Upon receiving at the circulation desk, cleaned with an alcohol wipe
  2. When returning, do not leave devices in sleep mode. 
  3. Devices must be wiped of all user data
  4. Powered off
  5. Cleaned with an alcohol wipe
  6. Returned to the Olin Library Circulation desk after each session

1. Connecting to Wi-Fi (Pre configured for Olin Library Use)

Navigate to Settings → Wi-Fi and select the Rollins College secure network (typically 'Fox Guest' or a designated VR network). Enter your Rollins credentials if prompted. 

(NOTE: Devices are pre-configured by Rollins IT.)

• Automatically connect to the Fox Guest network
• Enter your name and your Rollins email address
• Follow the instructions on the Headset to set up and/or connect to your Meta Account (Rollins email Meta account)

Students should not attempt to modify Wi-Fi settings. If connection issues arise, notify library staff or IT Helpdesk. 

Connect to your Meta Account

To connect to your Meta account, you will need to access the Accounts Center through one of Meta's platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Meta Horizon app, or your Quest headset) . Your Meta account serves as the central login credential for various Meta-owned services.

Steps to Connect via Meta Quest Headset

1. Open Universal Menu: Press the Meta button on your right controller.
2. Open Quick Settings: Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu and select Quick Settings.
3. Go to Settings: Select Settings in the top right corner.
4. Access Accounts Center: Select your profile icon from the left menu, then select Accounts Center.

Steps to Connect via Web Browser

1. Navigate to the Accounts Center: Go to accountscenter.meta.com in your web browser.
2. Log in:
   • Enter the email address and password associated with your Meta account.
   • Alternatively, you can choose to log in using your linked Facebook or Instagram credentials if they are already in the same Accounts Center.
3. Manage Accounts (Optional): Once logged in, you can view and manage all your connected accounts (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) under the "Accounts" section. You can add new accounts or enable "logging in with accounts" to use one account's login information to access others.

Steps to Connect via Meta Horizon App (Mobile)

1. Open the App: On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app.
2. Access Settings: Tap the Menu button at the top of your Horizon Feed.
3. Go to Accounts Center: Tap Accounts Center.
4. Manage Accounts: From here, you can manage your personal details, password and security, and add or remove accounts.

If You Forgot Your Password

If you forgot your password, you can reset it by visiting the Accounts Center, selecting "Password and security," and then "Forgot your password?". You will receive a confirmation code via email to help you set a new password. 

Operating the Headset

Fit & Comfort: Adjust the head strap and use the IPD (interpupillary distance) dial located on the bottom right of the headset for optimal visual clarity and comfort. 

Controller Functions: 

• Trigger: Select or grab objects 
• Grip Button: Hold or interact 
• Thumbstick: Navigate menus or move within virtual environments 
• Guardian System: Set up a safe play boundary via Settings → Environment Setup → Boundary. 

Library Safety Protocols: 

• Use only in designated VR zones within the Olin Library 
• Do not walk or move beyond the Guardian boundary 
• Report any discomfort or technical issues immediately
